A simple suggestion for facilitating communication with friends and family of the ill or dying

The main carer – or other person nominated – can use this to communicate with family members, friends and colleagues of the dying person quickly and effectively. The tree divides call responsibility between the group when there is an emergency or the need to spread an urgent message. For example, the first person on the tree may have three people to call; each of these people will call another three people. This carries on until the entire group has the message.

Keep the message short and concise. Only the facts should be given and each caller should avoid speculation. Confidentiality should be stressed.

Update the phone tree if current members drop out and/or new members are added.
